The Executive Archdeacon is appointed by the Diocesan Bishop. The Executive Archdeacon’s ministry includes serving the Diocesan Bishop, parishes, clergy and people in the diocese by:
- Supporting the Diocesan Bishop in the implementation of their vision and hopes for the diocese.
- Working with the Diocesan Bishop in the coordination of clergy appointments and licensing throughout the diocese.
- Assisting parishes in finding clergy during times of transition.
- Being available to the parishes and/or individuals as first contact for information about the sometimes complicated matters of church governance, interpretation of Temporalty Act, Constitution and Canons, Guidelines and Manuals.
- Being available to the parish leadership and clergy for general enquiries.
- Arranging for professional training such as ‘Anti-Racism’ and ‘Indigenous Awareness’ education.
- Being the first point of contact and works closely with the Diocesan Solicitor in property matters.
- Being the first point of contact and working closely with the Diocesan Chancellor in legal matters.
- Being responsible for the Clergy and Diocesan Staff Handbook, the Warden’s Handbook and various Diocesan Guidelines and Policies including the Respectful Workplace Policy and Social Media Policy (pending)
- Chairing the Executive Committee of the Diocesan Council.
- Processing of various grant applications such as Anglican Foundation Grants, Youth Grants and Clergy Continuing Education Applications
- Assisting Area Archdeacons, Diocesan Archivist and Registrar as needed.
