Serving as a member of the Diocesan office team located in Winnipeg, the role of the Director of Finance is accountable to the Bishop of Rupert’s Land and works closely with the Bishop and the Diocesan Treasurer.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
Financial Stewardship and Administration
- Maintains all books of account and financial records for the Diocese, Bishop’s Corporation, and Rupert’s Land Capital Fund
- Prepares year end financial statements, reconciliations, and audit working papers and serves as lead Diocesan resource working with relevant auditors
- Ensures all Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and Charities Directorate regulations are met including preparation of annual Charitable Information return
- Administers, monitors, and distributes Diocesan trust funds in accordance with trust provisions
- Supervises the Assistant to the Director of Finance
- Administers the Diocesan Insurance policies and ensures proper coverage
- Provides staff support to various committees (Diocesan Council, Executive, Finance, Budget, Audit, Compensation, Investment, Rupert’s Land Capital Fund, Bishop’s Corporation, Refugee, Companion Diocese, Indigenous programs, Archives, Retirees, Friends of the Bishop, Grow Hope, parish closings, Synod, workshops, PWRDF)
- Implements and monitors related internal controls
Parish Support
Serves as a resource to parishes in financial areas such as:
- Fulfillment of CRA regulations
- Insurance coverage
- National Church pension and benefits program
- Assists in development of sound and appropriate policies in areas of financial communication, payroll administration, investments, and insurance.
