Music Director for St. Andrew Woodhaven Anglican Church

The Position: Music is an important part of our worship at St. Andrew’s. The Music Director together with our priest will ensure that there is inspiring and joyful music to help grow our community of faith. The Music Director will lead, develop, and enrich the congregation’s worship experience by providing appropriate musical support at our regular 9:30am Sunday services as well as other special services and events. St. Andrew’s is currently in the process of reimagining its musical ministry in the parish. This gives the prospective candidate the opportunity to help us direct this very important ministry. To this end the parish has allotted a $600 budget to facilitate this growth. The Music Director will be expected to consult, collaborate and work alongside the minister and other committees in preparing for liturgy.

The Music Director will have the opportunity to play our widely acclaimed Phoenix organ. This organ was purchased in 2006 and financed mainly by the parishioners. This organ is unique to Winnipeg and enriches the life of our parish. The sanctuary and organ are available for teaching opportunities.

The candidate will be energetic, possess good communication skills, have a sense of humour and a broad range of musical knowledge from traditional to contemporary. The Music Director will have the ability to encourage and support committees and volunteers throughout the music ministry.  Excellent interpersonal and team-building skills are required with an ability to work equally well with the congregation, ministry personnel, as well as other musicians.

Our Congregation: St. Andrew Woodhaven Anglican Church is a congregation of approximately 154 households with many longstanding members. We worship from the Book of Common Prayer and have primarily used the Anglican hymnals. We are looking to expand upon our congregational repertoire. St. Andrew Woodhaven is a congregation that is enthusiastic about and appreciative of music ministry. In the near future, St. Andrew’s will be conducting its services in a hybrid format, that is, both in-person and live-streaming. Recorded services are posted on the church’s website weekly  https://www.standrewswoodhaven.ca/.

Details: This position’s start date will be negotiable.  It is a part-time position, with an average of 6-8 hours a week. We are looking to expand on the hours for our organist as we move forward. At this time we do not have a choir but hope to have one in the future.  Pay will be commensurate with experience.
