A Message for Pride Week 2026

Dear friends in Christ,

As we prepare to enter Pride Week May 26 – June 7, 2026, we write to you with gratitude, hope, and a renewed commitment to the Gospel truth that every person is created in the image of God and worthy of dignity, safety, and love. In our churches and in our communities, we continue to learn from the gifts, leadership, and witness of 2SLGBTQ+ people who enrich our life together in countless ways.

Pride Week offers us an opportunity not only to celebrate but also to reflect. It invites us to listen deeply to the stories of those who have been marginalized, to acknowledge the harm that has too often been done in the name of faith, and to recommit ourselves to the work of justice, reconciliation, and full inclusion. As bishops, we affirm without hesitation that 2SLGBTQ+ people are beloved by God, essential to the life of the Church, and deserving of communities where they can live and thrive without fear.

We encourage all members of our congregations to learn more about the history and purpose of Pride – how it emerged from struggle, how it continues to be a movement for human rights, and how it calls us to stand alongside those whose dignity is still contested. Pride is not only a celebration; it is a reminder of the work that remains before us.

This year, we invite you to take part in Pride Week events across our communities where 2SLGBTQ+ people gather to be seen and supported. We also encourage you to attend the Pride Parade – whether as an observer along the route or by walking with members of Lutheran and Anglican congregations who will be part of a shared float representing our synod and diocese. More information about taking part in the float will be coming soon. Your presence is a visible sign of our shared commitment to advocate for the rights of all people and to lift up the gifts that 2SLGBTQ+ members bring to our churches and neighbourhoods.

We recognize that our participation in Pride is not the end of our work. As church bodies, we continue to grow, to repent where needed, and to strive for communities where all people – of every sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression – are welcomed, affirmed, and empowered to serve. We are committed to walking this path with humility, courage, and joy.

May this Pride Week be a time of learning, celebration, solidarity, and renewed hope. And may the God who delights in the diversity of creation guide us as we seek to embody Christ’s love in all we do.

In Christ’s peace and with our blessing,
