St. Peter’s Anglican Church is a stable and engaged urban parish located in the River Heights area of Winnipeg. It has an average Sunday attendance in 2026 of over 50 people (in-person). The parish demonstrates consistent commitment and a strong sense of community, even as it navigates a period without a permanent incumbent. Its identity is firmly rooted in worship, which is thoughtful, participatory, and enriched by both traditional Anglican liturgy and creative spiritual practices such as healing prayer, meditation, and seasonal liturgical expression. Lay leadership plays a significant role in worship and parish life, reflecting a deeply collaborative model of ministry.
A defining strength of St. Peter’s is its culture of belonging and collaboration. The parish is widely experienced as welcoming, inclusive, and relationally strong. Many members describe it as a place of genuine connection and spiritual growth. This collaborative ethos extends to governance, ministry teams, and decision-making processes, enabling shared ownership of the parish’s mission. It demonstrates a clear commitment to discipleship and lifelong formation. It offers a range of opportunities, including adult education, children’s formation (Catechesis of the Good Shepherd), and small group discipleship. These are complemented by strong pastoral care ministries that extend both within the parish and into the wider community.
The parish is also notably active in outreach and community engagement, supporting local and global initiatives such as 1JustCity, Alongside Hope (PWRDF), the Grow Hope Project, and partnerships addressing food insecurity and social need. Its building is widely used by community groups, positioning the parish as a local hub of connection and service.
Financially, St. Peter’s is relatively stable, supported by committed giving and supplementary income such as hall rentals. While stewardship education remains an area for development, the parish demonstrates responsible financial management and the capacity to sustain its core ministries.
Following a multi-year Faith Forward discernment process, the parish has adopted a five-year strategic plan focused on:
• Strengthening the life of St. Peter’s as a vibrant Christian community grounded in worship and in the faith formation of each parishioner
• Growing our positive impact in the community and the world
• Growing St. Peter’s as an inter-generational Christian community
• Growing the resources to sustain St. Peter’s
The parish now seeks a half-time incumbent who can build on these strengths by providing relational, collaborative, and adaptive leadership. Someone who will deepen the parish’s spiritual life, guide its strategic priorities, and help it grow in mission within a changing context.
St. Peter’s is a healthy, collaborative, and mission-oriented parish with a strong foundation and clear direction. Its next phase will require leadership that can integrate its strengths in worship, community, and outreach with a renewed focus on growth, discipleship, and engagement with the wider neighbourhood.
