Greetings fellow disciples in the Diocese of Rupert’s Land and the MNO Synod:

In Canada, Pride Season refers to a series of events that take place from June-September when community members and allies gather together to spotlight the resilience, talents, and contributions of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.

This year’s Winnipeg Pride Festival will kick off with a Flag Raising on May 24th. The week of events includes a Vigil on May 26th and the Parade on Sunday June 2nd. If you’re unable to join the events in Winnipeg, we encourage you to take part in Pride events in your region.

At its heart, the mission of Pride and our call to be Christ’s disciples are very much aligned. We are called to ensure that all people know that they are created and loved by God and are free to live their lives without fear or oppression for being themselves.

As your bishops, we are inviting you to support and take part in this year’s Pride Season. In particular, we are inviting you to join with your fellow Lutherans and Anglicans who will be participating in the parade on June 2nd. We have a float that you can sit on or you can walk behind it with the rest of our group. Bring a water bottle, a hat, some sunscreen and a smile! Visit https://www.facebook.com/events/1636852187130033 for more information.

Taking part in Pride events is a way for us to be a visible sign of God’s grace, share Christ’s love with all people, and show the 2SLGTBQIA+ community that we are working to ensure that everyone has a place in our church. Additionally, we are called to live out our baptismal vows each and every day. If you want to learn more or want to get involved beyond Pride, please speak to your church’s leadership or contact the Synod or Diocesan office.

God’s creation is filled with diversity. Let’s celebrate the gifts that diversity brings and stand up for the 2SLGBTQIA people in our Church, our community and our world.
Yours in Christ’s Service,
